Autumn Term

Dear Parents /Carers,

It is lovely to see everyone after the summer and a warm welcome to our new   parents and children new to Farne.

We give out parent booklets each term to inform you about what your child will be learning at school. Reading is extremely important and therefore our work this term is based around two fantastic stories: ‘The Gruffalo’ and ‘Stickman’ These are stories your child may already be familiar with and they can lead to a wide range of exciting activities. Some of our activities include transforming our role play into ‘The Deep Dark Woods…’ Going on Gruffalo Hunts, making Gruffalo Crumble and Scrambled Snake, outdoor learning and den making. I’m sure Reception will thoroughly enjoy!

Other important information.

¨ Read, Write Inc is our new school phonics program being carried out throughout EYFS and KS1. Children will be given books which will be matched to their level of reading. Reading books will not be given out straight away and will be a systematic step program—there is a emphasis on ’speed sounds’ ’blending and enjoyment of home ’story books’ at first. When Read Write inc (RWI) books do go home they must be brought back into school in their book bags everyday.

¨ As well as reading, children will be given homework. This will be given out on a Friday and returned on the Thursday morning. Some homework such as Speed Sounds and Word Cards Blending and ‘story books’ will be ongoing and left in their bags ready to practice everyday at home.

¨ All children should have a P.E kit and it should be left on your child’s peg, these can be taken home at the end of each half term. It is extremely important to ENSURE ALL kit and school uniform including shoes are labelled to avoid mix ups!

Your children are settling well into Reception, making new friends and exploring their new environment. Keep checking newsletters, our school website and blogs for future dates and information, but if you have any questions, worries or queries feel free to talk to any member of staff after school and we will try our best to help. Thank you for you on going support.
